Young Opera Voice Competition

1st Prize €1,000 +Tara Cup, 2nd Prize

Rules and Regulations.

Eligibility:

       To be eligible for this competition, competitors must satisfy all of the following criteria:

·       Competitors must be from the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland; or from abroad and resident in Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland for at least one year prior to the date of the competition.

·       Attending a third level/postgraduate course of study or private school or private tuition.

·       Born between the 1st May 1996 and 30th April 2004.

 

Competition Requirements:

·       One aria from an opera or oratorio by either Handel or Mozart to be sung from memory in the original key and original language.

·       One other contrasting operatic aria of own choice to be sung from memory in original key and original language.

·       One art song to be sung from memory in original language.

·       Competitors must provide their own Accompanist.

·       Competitors will perform two pieces in the qualifying round (1 Aria and the Art Song). Finalists will perform two pieces, (The second Aria and one of the pieces already performed in the qualifying round)

 

Rules and Regulations:

 

1.     Closing date for applications is 31st March 2024

2.     Validity of an entry is the responsibility of the entrants. If the competitor does not comply with the regulations of the competition, then he/she may be disqualified.

3.     Entry fee 50 must accompany the application form and is non-refundable. Proof of age may be required.

4.     Original sheet music must be presented on the day of the competition. The responsibility for collecting music after the competition rests with the competitor.

5.     The winner of the Tara Cup will be responsible for its care and security whilst in his/her charge, and must return it promptly when requested to do so by Navan Choral & Instrumental Festival. The Tara Cup may not be taken abroad.

6.     The first prize-winner will be ineligible to compete in this competition in subsequent years.

7.     Competitors must perform from memory

8.     The Board of Directors of Navan Choral & Instrumental Festival reserves the right to photograph, broadcast live and/or record for subsequent reproduction and /or broadcast, on radio/television/internet, any performance, without payment. All material will be used for promotional purposes only.

9.     The Board of Directors of Navan Choral& Instrumental  Festival reserves the right to make any decisions not otherwise addressed in the official regulations, in order to ensure that the competition proceeds in a fair, efficient and orderly fashion.

10.  The decision of the Adjudicator(s) is final.
